A New Covenant (SD08)

Jer 31:31  “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for *they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

Though God is the Almighty and all Sovereign, and we are just dust, yet He prefers us to be answerable according to His covenants with men. In this New Covenant, God Himself will ensure us of these few things:-

1. I will put My law in their minds

John 4:26  "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you."

The Helper will bring His words to our remembrance.

2. I will write it on their hearts;

John 16:13"  However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth;"

The Helper or Spirit of truth will set the truth in our hearts.

3. they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

1Pet 2:9-10  But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light, who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

4. No more shall every man teach his neighbor... they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,

John 4:26a  "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things,"

The Helper will teach us all things.

5. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

1John 1:9  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We do not need to sacrifice sin offerings anymore because at our confession all our sins are forgiven for they are cleansed by the blood of our Lord Jesus.

Jer 11:19-20  Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

With the Helper or Spirit of truth (new Spirit), dwelling in us, we will be able to keep His commandments and words with joy.

John 14:15-17a  “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth..."

Brethren, this is the New Covenant that if we keep His commandments, Lord Jesus will pray to the Father Who will give us the Helper or Spirit of truth (by the baptism with the Holy Spirit) so that we may fulfill 'walk in His statutes and keep His judgments and do them;'
